Emilio Estevez was born May 12, 1962 in New York City. One of the several acting offspring of Martin Sheen, Estevez (who uses his real surname) began performing in TV movies as a teenager. The 1982 Disney drama Tex afforded him his first feature-film credit, which he followed in quick succession with Francis Coppola's The Outsiders. He also contributed fine ensemble work in two films of the so-called Brat Pack of young actors, The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's Fire. Not content with staying in front of the camera, the ambitious Estevez began flexing other creative muscles by writing and starring in the contemporary teen-angst drama That Was Then, This Is Now (1985), directing Men at Work, which costarred brother Charlie. He offered a comic performance in the comedy Stakeout, The Mighty Ducks, National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1, and sequels to some of his films. He was married to pop star Paula Abdul. He has two children.
