Eric Roberts was born April 18, 1956 in Biloxi, Mississippi. This accomplished, actor began appearing in stage productions at the age of 5. After studying at both the London Academy of Dramatic Art and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Before he became a movie star, he appeared in at least two soap operas. "Another World" and "How To Survive a Marriage." He made his film debut in King of the Gypsies. Roberts was attracted to dark, offbeat characters. He got his best opportunities in Star 80 (also 1983), as the psychotic husband of doomed Playmate, Dorothy Stratten, and The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984), as Mickey Rourke's screw-up cousin. These performances were followed by Runaway Train , which earned him an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor. His sister Julia made her acting debut in his starring vehicle Blood Red. He has a daughter with Kelly Cunningham. Roberts has been married to Eliza Roberts since 1992.
