For ten seasons, Gordon Clapp has both delighted and exasperated NYPD Blue fans with his portrayal of beleaguered detective Greg Medavoy. His character's idiosyncrasies prompted one reviewer to write, "Gordon Clapp is sheer perfection at making you squirm when you see Greg." In 1998, the TV industry echoed that sentiment, awarding him an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
He can be seen in a cameo opposite Dustin Hoffman in Moonlight Mile (Touchstone), the PBS drama American Family, and Sunshine State (Sony Pictures Classics), which reunited him with critically-acclaimed independent film director John Sayles. Other recent film appearances include the war blockbuster Rules of Engagement (Paramount), psychological thriller Skeletons in the Closet (Artisan) with Treat Williams and Linda Hamilton, and The Rage: Carrie 2 (MGM). Prior to NYPD Blue, Clapp guest starred on numerous series, including Wings, Cheers, Night Court and Civil Wars. He performed extensively in TV movies, starring opposite Farrah Fawcett in Small Sacrifices and John Corbett in The Morrison Murders, as well as Hands of a Stranger and Mission of the Shark: The Saga of the U.S.S. Indianapolis.
Armed with a theater degree from prestigious Williams College, the New Hampshire native spent much of his early career in Canada as a company member of Ottawa's premiere National Arts Center, and appearing for three seasons in the USA Network sitcom Check It Out! with Don Adams.
