Jesse McCartney was born in New York City, New York, USA. At of age 7, McCartney was performing in theater productions both on and off Broadway.
In 1998, McCartney scored his first role in television, signing on to play J.R. Chandler on the soap opera All My Children. One year later, he was selected from a pool of 500 other boys to join the pop group, Dream Street. The group released a certified-gold album and toured with Britney Spears before disbanding in 2002.
Two years later, McCartney saw both facets of his career -- music and acting -- receive national attention. First, he won the role of Bradin Westerly on Summerland, which debuted in 2004 on the WB and starred Lori Loughlin (who has since left the show). Second, he branched out on his own musically and, with Hollywood Records, released Beautiful Soul, an album featuring a slew of rock/pop hits.
