Sean Penn
Born: Aug 17, 1960
Sean Penn was born August 17, 1960 in Burbank, California. Born to a show-business family, (parents are director Leo Penn and actress Eileen Ryan), Penn was active in local theater while in his teens; he apprenticed at Los Angeles' Group Repertory Theater and worked as assistant to actor/director Pat Hingle. His work on Broadway in "Heartland" led to his first movie. He first caught audiences' attention as a young military cadet in Taps and as the ultimate surfer dude in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Penn graduated to leading roles in Bad Boys, Racing With the Moon, At Close Range, We're No Angels and Casualties of War, giving totally different nuances and shadings to each performance. He was briefly married to pop icon Madonna and then lived with actress Robin Wright (now his wife), whom he met while making State of Grace (1991) and with whom he had two children. Penn turned his energies behind the camera to direct The Indian Runner. Off screen for several years, he startled moviegoers by altering his so he could play Al Pacino's lawyer in Carlito's Way. Penn went behind the scenes once more for The Crossing Guard , which he wrote, directed, and co-produced. He also directed the Lyle Lovett music video "North Dakota." Unfortunately, his enormous talent has been overshadowed in the public eye by his headline-making outbursts of temper, often aimed at members of the paparazzi.
