Born in Manhattan and raised in New Jersey to parents of Puerto Rican descent, Jon is one of television and films most recognizable and established young actors. After seeing Jon in several films and working with him on the pilot "Under Fire", acclaimed Homicide producer, Tom Fontana, was in pursuit of Jon for the role of Detective Paul Falsone on NBC's Emmy Award-winning drama, "Homicide: Life On The Street" . Jon, is also recognized for his role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the movie "Selena" where he played the slain Tejano singer's husband, Chris Perez.
As an accomplished actor, Jon made hs debut as the lead character, Romano, a Cuban boxer, in the Columbia film "Gladiator". He has also starred in "The Sunchaser" opposite Woody Harrelson as 'Blue', a 16-year-old terminally ill convict who kidnaps his surgeon (Harrelson), which earned Jon a Best Actor nomination at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. he played the lead role opposite Lauren Velez and Rita Moreno in "I Like It Like That", which garnered Jon a nomination for Best Male Lead at the 1995 Spirit Awards. Other feature film and television credits include his co-starring role in "12 Monkeys", opposite Bruce Willis, with Al Pacino in "Carlito's Way", and leading role in several episodes of "Oz", and "Dear God".
